 World Pasta Day was established at the first World Pasta Congress in Rome in 1995 to celebrate pasta as a global food staple — Italians produce more than 3.6 million metric tons annually, with global per-capita consumption highest in Italy (23 kilograms per year) and Venezuela (12 kilograms).
